CLASSROOM
POLICY AND PROCEDURES
Notes from the desk of Mrs. Keyser 2009-2010
Welcome to J. Allen Axson! This will be an exciting year with lots of learning activities and experiences. To help make the year run smoothly we (parents and teachers) need to form a cooperative partnership with your child as our focus. Below is information that will help us plan for the year.
Grade Sheet/Yellow Folder: On Thursday, your student will bring home the “Yellow Folder”. This folder will contain graded work with a grade sheet stapled to the front. These grades are not weekly grades, but reflect the status of your child’s grade average at that point in the quarter. The folder also has a behavior chart to keep you informed of how well your child is handling his/her behavior. Please sign the folder and return it as soon as possible. You may keep the grade sheet and papers at home. Please, please, please take the responsibility to ask your child for this folder every Thursday, sign it, and have it returned on Friday.
Work Plans: On Monday, the students receive a copy of their work plan for the week. They are to keep these in their Planner. On Sunday prior to Monday, I will email this work plan to you so that you can help your child monitor the assignments. This also has reminders about upcoming events.
Planner: The daily planner will be sent home every day for you to monitor and sign. Your child will return it to me the following day. If you have any questions, concerns, etc., this is a valuable way to communicate.
Homework: This consists mostly of assigned work which was not completed during the school day.
Spelling: The spelling tests are on Wednesday in order to send them home in the Yellow Folder on Thursday. The spelling work is due on Wednesday morning upon entering the classroom. Fourth graders may print their spelling words on the test for the first quarter, but must use cursive after that. Spelling work will be written in cursive.
Handwriting: All work turned in to be graded must be in cursive. (See the exception above.)
Late Work: Any assignment turned in late will be deducted 10 points per day, with a B as the highest possible grade earned. In case of absences, the student has 1 day per day absent to turn in missed assignments. In case of suspension, the student’s missed work is due the day of return to school.
Conferences/Phone Calls: My classroom phone number is 992-3600 ext. 145. If I do not answer, please leave a message and I will return your call. My email is keyserfl@comcast.net.
Lunch/Snack: Our lunchtime is from 12:45 – 1:15 Your child will be assigned one day a week to use the microwave to heat up a lunch if they choose. We will take several brief “Brain Breaks” during the day. You will be given a schedule when it is your turn to provide snack for the class.
ExtraCredit: I do not believe in extra credit. Your student has multiple opportunities to receive a fair grade by completing assigned work.
